Celebrating Partnership: OCCI Visits Onslow Iron Operations with Mineral Resources
On Thursday 5th June, the Onslow Chamber of Commerce & Industry (OCCI) continued to strengthen its valued partnership with Mineral Resources, with CEO Bree Maher, Vice President Rachel Easton, and Hub Coordinator Claire Wheeler welcomed for an exclusive site visit to the Onslow Iron Port operations.
Hosted by Paul Wheeler, Port Manager at CSI Mining Services – a wholly owned subsidiary of MinRes - the OCCI team was taken on a guided tour of the operational facility, witnessing firsthand the impressive scale and innovation behind the export of iron ore, from haul truck deliveries through to final transhipment. The highlight of the visit was stepping aboard one of the state-of-the-art transhippers, where the Chamber team had the rare opportunity to observe the live loading of iron ore onto the “Rosily”. We are pleased to hear that the fifth and final transhipper “Peak” has arrived and due to become operational very soon.
“It’s great to see how clean the operations are. Standing here today, you can really see the effort they have gone to and the minimal impact to the local environment,” said OCCI CEO Bree Maher, noting the company’s strong environmental controls and operational excellence.
Now in its third year, the partnership between OCCI and Mineral Resources plays a pivotal role in supporting local businesses and promoting economic growth in Onslow. A key element of this collaboration is the ongoing support for The Onslow Hub, based at the Chamber office. One of its flagship initiatives, Onslow Connect, is a digital business directory that strengthens local supply chains and enhances visibility for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across the region.
“By creating opportunities for local businesses to be found, connected with, and contracted by major projects and each other, online tools like Onslow Connect are critical to the long-term economic resilience of our community,” said Bree Maher.
This site visit provided a glimpse into the future of Onslow Iron’s logistics operations, with the innovative pit-to-ship supply chain now ramping up to production towards the project’s nameplate capacity of 35 million tonnes per year.
OCCI thanks Mineral Resources for their continued investment in the Onslow region and their commitment to fostering genuine partnerships that drive local capability, employment, and shared prosperity.
