The Onslow Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), launched the Onslow Business Support Program (BSP).

The BSP is designed to deliver a holistic and tailored service to local Onslow businesses enabling them to develop capacity and capability to successfully supply services and products to Industry and government.

OCCI President, Jason Varcoe said, "Although the resource sector in Onslow has a great record in relation to supporting local business, it is also our responsibility (as business owner/operators) to make sure that we are delivering an excellent product and service. The BSP will help identify areas for improvement and work with the business to make it happen.

Overall, the BSP will determine supply and product demand and opportunity; match local business to areas of service and product demand; provide tailored business support to the respective businesses to meet required levels of service and pre-qualification requirements and support creation or expansion of new products and services to meet any gaps.

OCCI CEO, Chantelle King said, "Onslow is in a great position and continues to grow. Launching the BSP is testimony to the commitment of government and industry to investing in Onslow, and Onslow businesses.  It also demonstrates the intention of local business to commit to creating systems and processes that will enable them to deliver the best quality products and services on time and within budget making them extremely competitive.

The BSP is available to Onslow business owners and operators or aspiring business owners. "I urge anyone interested in participating to contact the OCCI and make an appointment to complete a diagnostic test.  Once that is complete, the OCCI will connect business owners and operators to the expert advice and support they require." said Ms King.

The BSP is made possible with support from the Pilbara Development Commission through Royalties for Regions.

Pilbara Development Commission small business lead Justin Fromm said the program would enhance the capacity of small businesses and in turn create more opportunities for local jobs.

"OCCI has shown great leadership in creating a program specific to the needs of Onslow businesses," Mr Fromm said.

"To strengthen the Pilbara's economy we all need to do our part to support our local businesses, both big and small."

The OCCI has become well positioned in Onslow and developed in to an exceptional professional organisation. Through the Principal Partnership with the Chevron Operated Wheatstone Project over the last 4 years the OCCI have been able to grow to a membership of over 140, set-up a shop front in the main street of Onslow and employ a full time CEO. All this support assists the OCCI in establishing programs such as the Business Support Program to support Onslow businesses.
